Robbery in Lord Venkateswara temple

Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, July 11: Robbers decamped with Rs five lakh worth gold and silver ornaments from the Lord Venkateswara temple, at Kallakuru village in West Godavari district today.

 



According to police here, some unidentified persons entered into the devasthanam early today between 0300 hrs and 0400 hrs, by breaking the locks. The robbers took away 11 sovereigns of gold ornaments and 20 kgs of silver ornaments from the idol.

They broke open the hundi and stole Rs 2,000 from it, police added.

The temple priest lodged a complaint with the police.

The police immediately plunged into action along with a dog squad.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of endowments V Trinadha Rao, who visited the temple, told reporters that the ornaments had been adorned to Lord Venkateswara last Friday after performing abhishekam.
