Rameswaram temple to be renovated

Chennai, April 3 (PTI): The Tamil Nadu government will initiate measures to renovate the northern and southern 'rajagopurams' (towers) of the famous Siva temple in Rameswaram, State Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister, K R Periakaruppan told the State assembly yesterday.


 

Replying to Congress MLA Hasan Ali, who raised the issue during question hour, the minister said the works for renovation of the two gopurams were taken up during the previous AIADMK regime. The work was later abandoned due to various reasons.

 

Now,the government had decided to take up renovation of the gopurams with its own funds and it would be started soon, he said.
